A record-breaking MLB star turned minister shares the wisdom he gained from overcoming hardships—and reminds us that it’s never too late to find a new life through love, generosity, compassion, and personal growth.
With four World Series rings, baseball legend Darryl Strawberry is one of the greatest hitters in the long history of the New York Mets, with a home-run record that held for 37 years. But Darryl’s success on the baseball field came hand-in-hand with personal challenges that included substance abuse, divorces, cancer, and jail time.
Two decades ago, he overcame the demons brought on by his childhood traumas and found true redemption and restoration. Today, as an ordained Minister of the Gospel, his purpose and passion is helping others transform their lives.
Another Life takes readers on the road with Darryl as he travels around the country with his son Jordan, preaching 270 days a year at motivational conferences and churches, and in schools, prisons, and hospitals. Strawberry’s life experiences show us that we all can heal what’s broken and hurting on the inside, and that our physical health is as important as our emotional and spiritual health.
In these pages, he reflects on the invaluable lessons he’s learned—and the deep-rooted values and principles he’s gained—through hard experience, the powerful living examples of his mother Ruby and wife Tracy, and his eventual acceptance of Christ’s unconditional love.
Everyone knows Darryl Strawberry as the home-run king. Another Life shares Darryl’s true legacy as a minister, father, and a believer in restoration, redemption, and starting over.
Darryl Strawberry is described as a baseball legend by many who have been dazzled by the dynamics of his game. His many accomplishments in the major leagues include four World Series titles, eight All-Star Game appearances, and a nomination to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.
Though Darryl was extremely successful in his career, his personal life was plagued with addictions, abuse, divorces, cancer, jail time, and other issues. Darryl finally found true redemption and restoration in Jesus Christ. Today, Darryl’s purpose and passion is serving the Lord Jesus Christ by traveling the country, speaking a message of hope and restoration through the power of the gospel.
He is the author of numerous books, including the New York Times bestseller, Straw: Finding My Way (with John Strausbaugh), Don’t Give Up on Me: Shining Light on Addiction with Darryl Strawberry (with Shawn Powell), Turn Your Season Around (with Lee Weeks), and The Imperfect Marriage: Help for Those Who Think It’s Over with his wife, Tracy Strawberry. In 2011 Darryl and Tracy founded Strawberry Ministries, and they use their global reach to restore the multitudes through spiritual and practical life applications.
In November, 2025, Darryl Strawberry was home caring for his wife who was recovering from surgery when his phone kept ringing with a call from Washington D.C. Thinking it was probably spam, but curious enough to answer, Darryl was surprised when a lady on the line said, “Darryl Strawberry, you have a call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump.” President Trump spoke warmly about his baseball days in New York City, praising him as one the greatest player of the ‘80s and celebrating the Mets. Then, the President told Darryl he was granting a full pardon for the charges the past.
Darryl later posted on Instagram, “Thank you, President @realdonaldtrump for my full pardon and for finalizing this part of my life, allowing me to be truly free and clean from all of my past. … This experience has deepened my faith and commitment to working for His kingdom as a true follower of Jesus Christ. … This has nothing to do with politics — it’s about a Man, President Trump, caring deeply for a friend. God used him as a vessel to set me free forever!
